Bow Ties for Charity in the Montgomery News!

Montgomery Recreation’s Bow Tie Sale Supports Six Causes

At the Thursday April 18 Township Committee meeting Recreation Director Karen Zimmerman introduced the new fundraiser, “Bow Ties for a Cause.” Ties are $5 apiece with six colors signifying different causes. Sales starting the week before Easter got off to a fantastic start as Zimmerman said $300 was raised in just the first two days of the fundraiser. Over $100 was raised from bowties bought at the Committee meeting on April 18, as the Rec. Department will feature “Bow Tie Thursdays” for township-wide promotions and solidarity.

“Proceeds from sales of green ties are for N.A.M.I, the National Alliance on Mental Illness; orange ties sold go towards the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America; red tie sales go toward the American Heart Association; purple is for Alzheimer’s Awareness; pink is for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer and black bow ties are for the Wounded Warriors Families Support. We are selling these for $5 at the Recreation office at the Otto Kaufman Community Center in Skillman as well as at the Health Department here at the municipal building (2261 Route 206). We ask that everybody wear their bow ties on Thursdays and take a picture or selfie. Then we can post them on the Montgomery Recreation Facebook page and Instagram as we hope this goes viral with more and more people joining in,” Zimmerman explained.

She and Recreation staff had dinner at the Tiger’s Tale just prior to the Committee meeting April 18. They were sporting the bow ties all day and during their meal, and when Tiger’s Tale patrons learned about the bow ties they quickly supported a variety of causes as another $65 was raised on the spot.

Assistant Rec. Director John Groeger and Jared Gutowski, Recreation Department program coordinator, are featured in a video posted on the Montgomery Township website. For more information please contact the Montgomery Recreation by calling (609) 466-3023 during normal business hours or email

LMS Cereal Boxes- A Halloween Gift!

A great big Thank You to the LMS students and staff for their incredible donation of 575 boxes of cereal to the Montgomery Township Food Pantry!

The MHS Baseball seniors made quick work of the transport, sorting and counting. Thank you Coach Mueller and players!!!
This annual donation makes such a huge difference for the many Montgomery families using the Food Pantry to help make ends meet. It carries
the Pantry thru the Winter months and enables us to include cereal boxes in our holiday meal baskets in both November & December and to stock the pantry thru the late Spring .
The Senior Citizens who attend the Montgomery Senior Center also receive a box of Cheerios during the holiday celebrations!
Extra boxes are shared with the area Food Banks that support Montgomery families with more needs (longer term needs) than our temporary pantry can handle.
Lastly, we give a shopping cart of cereal to the ladies at Daytop/Crawford House. This Halfway House for women, located in Skilllman, helps women recovering from addiction get back on their feet.
I am truly amazed at what a giving community Montgomery is! The Montgomery Township Food Pantry could not do what we do without this support.
